In 2008 the life of the Queen Mother was celebrated with the creation of a new memorial designed by Donald Buttress which incorporated and re-modelled that already existing to George VI.
The carving studio at Fairhaven Stone Ltd undertook the heraldic relief carving and lettering decorating the statue plinths and the decorative panels of the wreathed and crowned monograms.
From the brief, design models in clay were produced and cast in plaster as reference for the carvers.
The intricate and deeply cut carvings were worked by hand in fine Portland perryfield limestone.
The contract was completed with a fine slate inscription panel, with hand-cut Trajan lettering.
